Guyanese Humanities & Fine Arts

Guyana has a wide range of renowned people across all manner of spaces: poetry, music, painting, film, athletics, science, and more. Guyanese culture reflects the influence of African, Indian, Amerindian, Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch, and Spanish cultures.

Visual art takes many forms in Guyana, but its dominant themes are Amerindian, the ethnic diversity of the population, and the natural environment. Modern and Contemporary visual artists living in, or originally from Guyana include Stanley Greaves, Ronald Savory, Philip Moore, Donald Locke, Frank Bowling, Hew Locke, Roshini Kempadoo, George Simon, George Simon and Aubrey Williams.

These same cultural themes are reflected in poetry and literature in Guyana as well. For an archive of Guyanese poems, click the link below.
